It’s the first time in 20 years that genuine LeMans Prototypes have raced in Australia – the last event also occurring in South Australia with the iconic, if short-lived, Race of a Thousand years held on New Years Eve, 2000.
A 25-car field including some local names has assembled this weekend with the LMP2 cars, in particular, the quickest things to race on these shores outside of Formula 1.
TRT is at The Bend this weekend and we’ll bring you plenty of highlights across the weekend – including this gallery from Friday’s pair of unofficial and then 90-minute official session.
Remarkably, after a solid month of scorching temperatures, consistent rain fell for much of the day, though the circuit dried in time for the 90-minute official session later in the afternoon.
