Wild HQ Monaro to join TCM in 2022

WARREN TREWIN will trade one iconic General Motors Muscle Car for another when he and his SNB Berryman Racing team join the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Series in 2022.

The Victorian driver, a previous series regular in the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series and TA2 racing driving a Chevrolet Camaro, has purchased a well-known HQ Monaro GTS 350 for his TCM debut this year.

Along with Trewin will come his record of producing incredibly well-presented entries; with his Monaro set to be no exception.

The vibrant scheme, designed by noted livery designer Tim Pattinson, will adorn the sides of a Monaro with plenty of TCM success in the past.

Initially built and campaigned by Tony Edwards, the car was a race winner in the hands of both Les Walmsley and Keith Kassulke before passing to the ownership of Jim Pollicina. Both he and regular co-pilot Dean Lille raced the car, before it moved to Queensland and owner Guy Gibbons.

Trewin purchased the car in December last year and is locked in for the opening round of the 2022 season, set for the Newcastle 500 in March.

Trewin’s decade-long involvement in motorsport started in HQ Holden racing, prior to several successful years in Production Car racing – including strong Bathurst 6 Hour campaigns – and his subsequent move into Trans Am and TA2 competition.

The 2022 Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Series will be contested over six rounds this year, commencing at the Newcastle 500 on March 4-6.

“Coming into TCM with this car is like life’s full circle! I started HQ racing and was competitive – we had national podiums and all the usual Highs and lows,” Trewin said.

“After that I moved on to Production Car stuff with our Commodores, including the Bathurst 6 Hour, before we entered TA2. I always liked look and sound of the cars and still do.

“We got to the point where I wanted to look around for something else and TCM was hugely appealing for us.

“I’m never going to beat a JB (John Bowe) or (Steve) Johnson, but I want to have cool car and do some different tracks we’ve never done.

“It will give us some good experiences and in a cool thing.

“I always new wanted the HQ Coupe’ and was hunting around for the right car. I spoke to Les Walmsley about this car, that he raced, and then got on to Guy Gibbons in QLD and the timing was right for him.

“The car arrives this week, we’ll have a look and get it stickered up and ready for the opening round. It’s a really good fit for our brands like Berryman Products.

“I’m really looking forward to it, to be in the category and racing alongside all the different cars and drivers.

“Presenting well is my MO, and Tim’s livery will take care of that. The rest of it like results will be what it will be!”
