‘AUSSIES AT LE MANS’ Radio feature to debut

A 70-MINUTE AUDIO documentary detailing the history of Australian drivers competing at the famed Le Mans 24 Hour race will air on Hagerty Radio Le Mans in the build-up to the race this week.

Written and Produced by TRT editor Richard Craill and voiced by the regular On the Grid team, the special show will air on RLM directly following the Hyperpole qualifying session on Thursday evening, circuit time (Friday morning in Australia).

The show will then be available to download as a podcast from the Radio Show Ltd. website, The Race Torque and via all good podcast platforms – including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Deezer.

The Audio special details the history of the 40 Australian drivers to have attempted to win the French classic.

A feature 20-minute interview with Australian Motorsport Great Tim Schenken is a highlight, with the six-time Le Mans starter detailing his career at La Sarthe, including driving for Ferrari in 1973. He also details the founding of racing car constructor, Tiga, which would go on to produce class winning Sports Cars at the event.

From the early pioneers in the 1920s and 30s to the successes of the Brabham brothers, Mark Webber’s dramatic debut and then strong return, to the legendary Vern Schuppan right through to current star Matt Campbell, the documentary covers off as many highlights and big moments as possible from 94 years of Antipodean participation in the race.

Listen live on RS1, via Hagerty Radio Le Mans, at 8:40pm circuit time or 4:40am AEST in Australia on Friday morning.

The podcast will go live via the usual On the Grid channels at 7:00am Friday morning, Australian time.
