LIVE Speedway set for major network this weekend
IN A MASSIVE boost for Speedway and especially Sprintcar fans everywhere, the Seven Network will carry Live and Free coverage of the West Aussie-based Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series this Saturday night.
Seven will stream the product live and free on their 7plus platform on Saturday night, having earlier this season run ‘as live’ coverage a day following each event.
Response to the product, steered by well-known Motorsport producer Dean Neal, was so strong to the point where at one point, the on-demand coverage was reportedly second only to the Superbowl on Seven’s platform in terms of audience uptake.
This weekend, however, will be the first time that fully live coverage will have been produced and aired marking a major leap forward.
TRT has followed the saga of Speedway’s lack of internal promotion or TV coverage for some time, including this piece published in late December commenting on Speedway’s struggles to escape their niche and capitalise on their potential appeal as a major summer sport.
The coverage will include motorsport experts Matt Naulty, Briony Ingerson, Greg Rust, Karl Langdon, Chris Mitchell and Daniel Leach as a series champion is crowned at the Perth Motorplex.
The showdown will see series leader James Inglis hold off the charge of former series champions Jason Kendrick and Callum Williamson in a bid to claim the crown, and Australia’s richest Speedway pay out.
Victorian Jamie Veal will also feature aboard his Monte Motorsport entry in a bid to continue his strong form out West.
“Special thanks to Gavin Migro, Paul Trengove at the Perth Motorplex for their vision in allowing this to happen,” Executive producer Dean Neal said.
“Also special thanks to the series sponsors and most of all thanks to everyone at 7Sport for their support too!”
