Throwback: Winton Shannons
The Shannons Nationals, now the Shannons SpeedSeries, has sure come a long way since 2010.
Back 13 years ago, the second-tier platform rolled into Winton Raceway with a decidedly more low-key program than that which will greet race fans this weekend.
The highlight category on the program was the Commodore Cup, which featured a pair of two-driver 45min mini-enduros, featuring drivers such as Lee Holdsworth, Paul Morris, Steve Owen, Ryan McLeod and more.
The V8 Touring Cars turned out one of their best fields to that date for the category, with the schedule filled with a Production Sports Cars enduro, Australian Saloon Cars, and the Dallas Crane HQ Challenge.
With the greatest of respect, it’s fair to say that the package has stepped up a notch in modern times.
This weekend, TCR Australia will be joined by Touring Car Masters, Nationals Trans Ams, S5000, Australian Formula Ford, and the only survivor from 2010, the V8 Touring Car Series.
The Race Torque will be trackside over the coming day, reporting on all of the action.
