Australian Speedway Centenary Celebrations
The Race Torque’s massive 2023 of motorsport rounded out on a high with the Australian Speedway Centenary, which was hosted at North Brisbane Speedway over two nights.
Opening with the sidecars, the event was brought home on the second evening by the solos, with a world class field attracted to the event.
The meet marked 100 years since the first recognised speedway bike races, which were contested in Maitland in December 1923, with the Aussie spectacle going on to take over the world.
On a sweltering night, a big crowd converged on the 350m short oval at Mick Doohan Raceway, with the audience treated to some spicy competition.
For the record, Victorian Jaimon Lidsey claimed overall honours for the meet ahead of three-time Australian champ Max Fricke, with 2017 Speedway GP world champ Jason Doyle third in the final.
The local speedway season continues at the venue with the opening round of the five event Australian Championship, which is scheduled for January 4th.
