Hunter McElrea: One on one following his IndyCar debut
FOR AS long as he could remember, Hunter McElrea wanted to be an IndyCar driver. On Sunday, July 21 he quite literally lived that dream, making his NTT IndyCar Series debut with Dale Coyne Racing on the streets of Toronto – so of course we needed to get the lowdown.
From the seemingly fruitless chasing of a drive all year to a late call-up to test for Coyne’s team at Mid Ohio and then landing the seat for Toronto, Hunter tells the full story of the build-up, testing and then his debut weekend.
From what it’s like to drive an IndyCar, the hybrid system, braking and Toronto’s walls to racing legends old enough to be his father, this is a ripper insight into both the journey and what the destination is like when he got there. Following our chat with Hunter, it’s the regular Hot’s and Not’s from the week that was in motorsport, and boy, there were plenty.
All on this special edition of OTG that goes as long as an IndyCar race, just with less aerial racing cars.
