Three National Classes Headline Sandown Vic Sate

This weekend’s round of the Victorian State Race Series at Sandown is shaping up as a significant one on the local calendar, with three national touring series joining the party.

In addition to the host of usual local classes taking to the home of horsepower, perpetual Sandown favourites, the National Sports Sedans will be joined by the Australian Formula Ford Series and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia Scholarship Series.

The Sports Sedans see an interesting mix, with favourites set to include Daniel Tamasi, the Mazda-mounted Peter and Matt Ingram, Steven Tamasi, Ash Jarvis, Michael Robinson and more.

Oh, by the way, Thomas Randle will be there in his out-of-this-world Saab.

Additionally, Mark Duggan is backing up from his start in the Tassie Tin Tops in his Aston Martin, while Ryan Humfrey returns after magnificent repairs were applied to his fan-favourite XE Falcon after an uber-shunt last time out at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Formula Fords will be backing up for a doubleheader after a brilliant outing over the weekend at Symmons Plains.

All told, 27 cars are featured on the entry list, with the best of the Victorian field coming out to play.

Edison Beswick, Kobi Williams, Jack Bussey, Liam Loiacono, and co will be joined by local ring-ins like Seth Burchartz and Richard Davison.

A total of 29 Toyota 86s have entered for the meet, with the venue in the past providing the perfect setting for slip-streaming trains amongst the spec racers.

Last time out at Queensland Raceway, front runners included Kiwi young gun Ben Stewart, Max Geohegan, Hayden Hume, Alice Buckley, Charlie Park and Wil Longmore, plus approximately 23 others looking to make their mark.

As always, the Lanotec Hyundai Excels will be out in force, with a nomination list extending to 32.

All of the usual players will be there, including Hugo Simpson, Ashton Cattach, Tabitha Ambrose and many more.

In addition to the National Sports Sedans, the Vic V8s bring plenty of mumbo and some Sports Sedan regulars out of the woodwork.

Featuring a mixed bag of Holdens and Fords, Greg Lynch will be a front-runner, while Danny Buzadvic is an interesting addition in his Torana.

Elsewhere, the resurgent Saloon Cars have a field of 20 six-cylinder Falcons and Commodores, four more than the Formula Vees, which are typically dynamite at Sandown.

The BMW E30s return, with their races combined with the 24-strong Improved Production field, which brings a mixed bag of everything to the party.

Last but not least on the program will be the Porsche 944s.

Following a full round of 20-minute qualifying sessions kicking off at 9:10am on Saturday, there are slated to be three rounds of 20-minute time certain races kicking off at 1:15pm, with Sunday’s action also set for a 9:10am launch.

Spectator tickets are $15 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday, with weekend passes setting you back only $30.

As always, the action will be broadcast live through Blend Line TV, except for the Toyota 86s, with the telecast going live at 1:10pm Saturday and 9:30am Sunday.
