Bloxsom Locks In
PORSCHE Michelin Junior Lachlan Bloxsom will get double the dose of one-make Porsche competition this year, confirming plans to contest both the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series in 2025.
While Pro-Am drivers have contested both series in the past, Bloxsom’s double duties season will be the first time a Porsche Junior has tackled both categories, full time, in the same year.
The 19-year-old Queenslander will return to McElrea Racing for a bumper year that will see him contest 14 events and 42 races – plus associated test days – this year aboard a mixture of Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Car (Carrera Cup) and Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup Car (Sprint Challenge) machinery.
Bloxsom graduated into one-make Porsche racing in 2022, commencing the first of his two Sprint Challenge seasons that year.
He made his Carrera Cup debut in 2024, finishing his rookie year in good touch including scoring a season-best finish of eighth at the Adelaide 500 – having earlier qualified a season-best sixth.
“Heading into 2025, having the chance to race in both the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia and the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia series as a Michelin Junior driver is an opportunity and a challenge that I am really looking forward to,” Bloxsom said.
“Running under the McElrea Racing banner in both series will be a great chance for both myself and the team to strengthen the foundations that we, as a collective, have built over the past couple of years.
“The opportunity to compete in 14 one-make Porsche rounds in 2025 will not only strengthen my skills on-track but off-track too, teaching me to balance my University Studies with my busy motorsport calendar.
“Having competed in both series’ before, there is no doubt that this year will be challenging. Both are ultra-competitive and have a considerable level of depth throughout the fields.
“I cannot thank my family, my sponsors and my team enough for giving me the opportunity to compete at this level in 2025.”
Added McElrea Racing team owner, Andy McElrea:
“Lockie is competing against a host of other fast, young drivers who are competing in multiple championships around the world.
“Working with Lockie and his family, we came to the conclusion that being loyal to both our championships here was a better and more cost effective way to get extra, high quality race mileage this year.
“This way, he can compress two seasons of competition, testing and everything associated with that, into 10 months which we feel will give him the best opportunity to progress his development this year.”
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship gets underway at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 21-23, while the Michelin Sprint Challenge campaign commences at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on April 4-6.
