DOUBLE S5000 AUSTRALIAN Drivers’ Champion Joey Mawson will return in a bid to add the Tasman Cup to his trophy cabinet this year. 

The Sydney-based driver has confirmed his participation in the two-event Tasman Series, once again linking with Team BRM.

BRM will field a pair of entries at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 this week, with Mawson to line-up alongside teammate Mark Rosser on the Surfers streets.

The pair have worked closely together this season, with Mawson in a coaching role, while the pair also joined forces with Nick Percat to contest the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour in Rosser’s Audi R8 GT3.

BRM has also confirmed it is planning to field additional cars, alongside Mawson and Rosser, for their home event at the VALO Adelaide 500 this December.

Mawson finished fifth in last year’s Tasman Series following a tough opening round in Sydney.

He clinched his second consecutive Gold Star win in Darwin earlier this year after edging out James Golding, Cooper Webster and Tim Macrow in a four-way fight for the crown.

The S5000 field takes to the streets of Surfers Paradise from this Friday, ahead of three big races on Saturday and Sunday on the Gold Coast.

All sessions will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports this week.

“This is the 20th anniversary of our first race on the Surfers Paradise street circuit and we can’t wait to be back with Joey and Mark in the S5000s.
