Robotham Thai Success
A last-minute double-duty call-up for Jay Robotham has paid dividends at the opening round of the 2023 Thailand Super Series, with the Aussie young gun claiming victory in the Supercar GTC class aboard a Corliss Race Engineering prepared Ford Mustang.
After suffering a mechanical issue while leading the opening race, the 20-year-old bounced back in the second encounter.
The heat was punctuated by a red flag to clean up a significant oil down created by Manasseh Manuel Caceres’s Toyota Supra.
Upon the restart, Robotham had to overcome the McLaren 570S GT4 of Thanapongpan Sutamno and resist the advances of Ford stablemate Jack Lemvard to take the win.
The massive Super Pickup field was split in two post-qualifying, with Robotham’s Ford Ranger placing in the top division, however, a lack of boost compared to the dominant Isuzu competition proved to be an issue.
Despite this, he managed to climb through to 11th in the opener before being sidelined at mid-distance in the finale.
“I had a really good race with the win in race two of the GTC Class,” said Robotham.
“In the Ranger Super Pickup we were finding our speed, but we had a few problems, hopefully, next round, we can solve them and move forward to show them what we really have to offer.
“I’m really happy with the weekend, I met a lot of new people over here, and everyone was so helpful with running the two cars back-to-back.”

Next up for Robotham is the second round of the National Trans Am Series aboard the Bushwakka/The Racing Academy Ford Mustang, which is scheduled for May 12-14 from the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
After a strong start to the season at Symmons Plains, Robotham will look to improve on his third place in the standings.
The Thailand Super Series meanwhile continues at the Chang International Circuit from May 26-28.
