Shannons SpeedSeries Returns

SRO Motorsports Australia’s exciting new racing platform will enjoy a familiar feel in 2025 and beyond as it retains the popular SpeedSeries name.

With SRO Motorsports Australia taking over as the principal promoter of the SpeedSeries in 2025, entering a collaborative partnership with Motorsport Australia, the decision was made to honour the platform’s lasting legacy and keep the name.

Long-time supporter Shannons Insurance will also remain as the naming rights partner, with the platform to continue being known as the Shannons SpeedSeries.

Since its inauguration in 2006, the Shannons SpeedSeries platform has enjoyed a variety of changes, which includes the Shannons Nationals and the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships, before ultimately evolving to its current namesake in 2022.

Although the name will remain the same for the next chapter of its journey, the Shannons SpeedSeries has undergone a refreshed makeover in readiness for the next phase of its evolution with an innovative new logo.

Headlining the new-look Shannons SpeedSeries in 2025 will be GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, while Monochrome GT4 Australia will run alongside it at every round this year.

A number of popular national series have also been confirmed as support acts next year, including Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia and First Focus Radical Cup Australia. Ferrari Challenge Australasia will also form part of the support bill this year, in what is its first season in the Southern Hemisphere.

The series will be made up of six rounds in 2025, with a handful of popular Australian circuits to feature throughout the season – including Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Sydney Motorsport Park, Queensland Raceway and Sandown International Raceway.

The series’ Australian tour will conclude at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park before the season officially wraps up across the Tasman Sea in New Zealand at Hampton Downs.

More details on the new-look Shannons SpeedSeries, including the broadcast, event schedules and ticketing options, will be released in the coming weeks.

The revamped Shannons SpeedSeries will officially launch with the opening round at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on April 4-6.

QUOTES

Ben McMellan

SRO Motorsports Australia CEO

“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to retain the Shannons SpeedSeries name in 2025 and continue this series’ great legacy,” said McMellan.

“The Shannons SpeedSeries name carries significant credibility and familiarity within the Australian motorsport community and we believe it was important to integrate it into the new era led by SRO Motorsports Australia.

“Keeping the name emphasises our commitment to building a new platform centred around our GT identity and paying homage to the rich history and character of the Shannons SpeedSeries — something we endeavour to contribute to in the years to come.

“A big thank you to the team at Shannons Insurance, whose continued support for the latest iteration of the SpeedSeries highlights its commitment to Australian motorsport and our shared vision of taking an already-great product to the next level.”

Stephen Nutbean

Shannons Insurance Executive Manager Shannons Customer Service

“Shannons is delighted to continue our naming rights partnership of the Shannons SpeedSeries in 2025,” said Nutbean.

“At our core, we are enthusiasts for all things motoring and motorsport and we share the passion and excitement with Australian motorsport fans as we countdown to season 2025.

“Shannons has an enduring legacy with the SpeedSeries, kicking off our relationship almost two decades ago when it was then known as the Shannons Nationals.

“As the series evolved, we have been proud to be associated with its progression and capability to offer the Australian motorsport community a platform to nurture growth, from drivers all the way to volunteer officials.

“With SRO Motorsports Australia promoting the series in 2025, we’re excited to see their plans and initiatives come to life, continuing to raise the standard of this level of motorsport that has already matured so much over the last two decades.

“Plus, having partnered with SRO Motorsports Australia and the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS in 2024, it was only natural to continue our association with a series and promoter that is important within the Australian Motorsport landscape.

“We can’t wait to join you trackside at the Shannons SpeedSeries in 2025.”

Lisa Crampton

Motorsport Australia Sporting & Technical Director

“There has been overwhelmingly positive sentiment for the SpeedSeries brand and its history, and Motorsport Australia trusts SRO to continue the SpeedSeries legacy under its leadership,” said Crampton.

“The SpeedSeries plays an important role to provide a platform of national level circuit racing for our teams and competitors, for our Motorsport Australia Officials to nurture and gain experience, and for spectators to experience an accessible and affordable variety of motorsport.

“Shannons Insurance has played a significant role with the SpeedSeries over the decades, and it’s equally pleasing to see them continue their support of Australian motorsport.”
