Huge numbers for Grand Prix TV

THE Australian Grand Prix has drawn an enormous audience on Network 10, the free-to-air broadcaster reports.
A combination of factors, including the remarkable Oscar Piastri effect taking hold of Australian sports fans, ensured the epic race will have been seen by more Aussie’s this year than any other in most of the last decade.
More than 1.7 million people watched the dramatic race on Sunday, with the national audience up more than 30% year on year. It’s the most watched Australian Grand Prix on the network since 2016 and made the race the most-viewed sport on TV in Australia on Sunday.
The three-day broadcast reached a total of 3.59 million people while the video on demand audience almost doubled – up 97% – year on year.
The national average audience for Sunday’s race of 1.032 million people was more than 280,000 larger than the 2024 race, which in turn was 3% larger than 2023s.
Fox Sports has not released exact numbers for their own broadcast, nor that streamed on Kayo Sports, however a release issued today indicates it was the most-watched Formula 1 race on their platform in history.
Based on previous numbers released by the broadcaster, we can expect that to be in excess of 550,000 people with a reach of over 1m.
Those numbers, coupled with Network 10 free to air and on-demand numbers plus the 132,000 at the track on Sunday, will likely push the total race audience beyond three million for what could have been the most-watched Australian Grand Prix yet.
