VIDEO: RAREST PORSCHE IN AUSTRALIA HITS THE TRACK

PREPARATION is well underway for this weekend’s The Bend Classic, with private practice setting the tone today as 76 classic, historic and modern cars prepare for the annual celebration of motorsport.

The grid includes cars from the early 1900s historics through to 80s era Formula 1 cars.

One rare example on show is the stunning Porsche 911 GT1 Evo – the car hitting the track on Thursday, ahead of several demonstration runs scheduled for the event this weekend.

Recently purchased by an Adelaide-based private collector, the GT1 is the only one of the only 18 race cars built by Porsche converted to road car use.

The car raced at Le Mans and the Daytona 24 Hours, and won several Canadian GT Championships, during its racing career and was one of the most successful of the first-generation GT1s built prior to being converted to road use.

The GT1 Evo will be joined on track by a McLaren P1 GTR, one of only 45 in the world, in completing demonstration laps this weekend.

The Bend Classic is a Super Sprint event, run against the clock, however an end of weekend shootout for the 10 fastest cars will determine the overall Classic winner.

Defending champions Brabham Automotive have returned to defend their title with the BT62, to be steered by Josh Kean this weekend.

Kean will also drive his Footwork Arrows Formula 1 Car this weekend.
