Regional Motorsport Facility Expands

The DriveIt facility, just outside of Townsville, has continued down its expansion path, with a recent photo showing progress on the facility’s quarter-mile drag strip. To be operated by the Northern Drag Racers Club, the drag strip is the third phase of development on the 306ha site following the construction of a driver training/skid pan, and the basis of the 2.75km long race circuit, which opened for business last year. Last May, we covered the opening of the 12-corner layout, which was 17 years in the making, and the first all-new facility in the state since Queensland Raceway opened in

The Bathurst Riots: A History of Conflict

Many facets add to the legend of Mount Panorama: the impossible circuit layout, the incredible races, and the gladiators who go into battle. However, none of these factors would count for anything if it weren’t for the devoted fans who line the incredible ribbon of asphalt. Over generations, the top of The Mountain grew a reputation as a truly wild frontier, and centre to this was when anarchy took charge in the early 1980s in the series of Easter Motorcycle riots. Police provocation, bad behaviour and sensationalist media reporting conspired to ruin one of the biggest motorcycle events in the

Jones Dominates Race 1

HARRI JONES converted pole position to victory in Race 1 of the third round of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia at Hidden Valley, fending off early pressure from Jackson Walls to claim his eighth career race win. Jones led home Walls and Dale Wood in the Equity-One Professional class battle amidst an intense 17-lap affair, while Adrian Flack won his sixth straight race in the TAG Heuer Pro-Am battle, finishing just in front of Rodney Jane. In typically hot Darwin conditions, Jones made the best launch from pole, immediately covering his line from an aggressive Walls. David Russell passed

Hot Times in Top End

DYLAN O’KEEFFE has topped a typically tight day of practice as the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship launched into the third round of the 2024 season in Darwin. In fact, the margins weren’t just tight – they were tiny with just fractions of a second covering the leading runners and for that matter, the entire grid. O’Keeffe, the 2018 Darwin winner, topped the day with a 1m06.8686s flyer late in the second practice session today to end Friday just 0.0326 seconds faster than Taupo winner David Russell. Russell, aboard his TekworkX Motorsport entry, had topped practice one and
