A THREE way fight for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS Championship will see the title contenders each bring serious GT3 heavy-hitters to the title battle this weekend. Here, we run through the highlights, from 1846 to the present. 1846 - Horse racing commenced in Victoria Park. 1882 - The heritage-listed Victoria Park grandstand (that remains in place) was erected. The early 1980s - Sydney (harbourside), Melbourne (Sandown) and Canberra (a new standalone racetrack) all thought it would be great to bring Formula 1 to Australia. 1984 - Following a chat with Bernie Ecclestone, Adelaide successfully steals the Australian Grand Prix from its then home of Calder Park, with the race set to run from 1985 to 1991. Motorsport Australia has confirmed two date changes for the 2024 Shannons SpeedSeries calendar. The fourth round of 2024, held at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, will now take place one week later than listed in the draft calendar, with competitors heading to The Bend on 31 May – 2 June. Meanwhile, the Shannons SpeedSeries’ second visit to Queensland Raceway will now be held two weeks later, with the sixth round of 2024 now being held on 2-4 August to avoid a clash with Supercars. Following last week’s news of a potential greyhound track to be built in the camping grounds at the base of Mount Panorama, comes the lodgement of a development application for a go kart track in a similar area, set to be located near The Chase.
